What is the difference between a notary and a commissioner of oaths?
A commissioner of oaths administers oaths, affirmations and declarations, typically for documents used in Ontario. A notary public can do the same and can also certify copies and notarize signatures, which is often what institutions and foreign governments ask for. We can tell you which your document needs.
Using a document outside Canada?
Some countries need more than a notarization. Canada joined the Hague Apostille Convention on January 11, 2024, so documents for other member countries can be apostilled — in Ontario, through the province’s Official Documents Services. Check the receiving country’s requirements before your appointment and we will prepare the document accordingly.
