FAQ

Questions clients ask first

Short answers to the questions we hear most often. Every situation is different, so call us to talk about yours.

General information about Ontario law, not legal advice for your situation.

How much can I claim in Ontario Small Claims Court?

Up to $50,000, excluding interest and costs — the limit rose from $35,000 on October 1, 2025. Larger claims go to the Superior Court of Justice. Our civil litigation team acts in both courts, for claimants and defendants.

How long do I have to start a lawsuit in Ontario?

The basic limitation period under the Limitations Act, 2002 is two years from when you discovered, or ought to have discovered, the claim. Some claims require notice much sooner, so get advice early.

Can I reach Maks Law Firm outside office hours?

Yes. The firm is available 24/7 by phone at (647) 955-1681 and on WhatsApp at (647) 739-1639. Meetings at our Mississauga office are by appointment.

Where do you meet clients?

By appointment, in person in Mississauga or by phone. Call or WhatsApp to arrange a time. We act for clients across Mississauga, Brampton and the rest of Ontario.

What should I bring to my first meeting with a lawyer?

Photo ID, every document related to the matter (letters, contracts, court papers, police paperwork, emails), and a short written timeline of what happened. If you have been served with court documents, bring them and note the date you received them.

Is what I tell a lawyer confidential?

Yes. Communications with your lawyer for legal advice are protected by solicitor–client privilege, and Ontario lawyers owe you a duty of confidentiality. Please share sensitive details in a consultation rather than through the website form.

Tell us what happened. We’ll tell you where you stand.

Call, WhatsApp or send a short enquiry — any time of day. A member of our team will arrange a consultation with the right lawyer — in person or by phone.
